About
Upon recently graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a Bachelor’s degree in Fibers, I am currently living in New York City. With a vast knowledge in print/pattern, surface design, knitwear design and construction, as well as having experience in trend forecasting and color/concept development, I am seeking a career in textile design.
From a young age Dana Athorn found herself
eager to explore the vast potentials of
creativity and the freedoms the art world
provided. Growing up in Connecticut, Dana
felt herself constrained by the limitations
and conformities of her conservative town.
She found an escape just a quick train
ride away in New York City and became
immersed in the vibrancy and limitless
forms of expression the people of New
York exhibited. She promised herself that
one day she would make her mark in the
creative world some way or another, and
decided to attend the savannah college of
art and design and pursue a BFA in fibers.
As a fibers major, she was able to find
refuge in people who shared similarities
in the interest of exploring materiality
and fabric manipulations. Dana thrives in
environments empowering women’s work and is
proud to be part of an artist community that
acknowledges both traditions of the field,
and contemporary feminist movements.
